Darling In The FranXX is a 2018 Japanese anime series that combines the genres of mecha, romantic drama and science fiction. The series is co-produced by A-1 Pictures and Trigger and animated by Trigger and CloverWorks. It follows the story of a squad of ten pilots who operate giant robots called Franxx to defend humanity from monstrous creatures known as klaxosaurs.

The series also introduces a variety of characters who have their own personalities, backgrounds and motivations. The main characters are the members of Squad 13, a group of parasites who pilot Franxx in pairs. They are:

• Hiro: The protagonist of the series, a former elite parasite who lost his motivation and aptitude to pilot a Franxx. He regains his passion and skills when he meets Zero Two and becomes her partner.
• Zero Two: The deuteragonist of the series, a mysterious and charismatic girl who is a hybrid of human and klaxosaur. She is an elite pilot who can operate any Franxx, but has a reputation of killing her partners after three rides. She is obsessed with becoming fully human and finding her original darling.
• Ichigo: The leader of Squad 13 and Hiro’s childhood friend. She pilots Delphinium with Goro and has feelings for Hiro. She is loyal, responsible and protective of her teammates.
• Goro: Hiro’s best friend and Ichigo’s partner. He pilots Delphinium with Ichigo and has feelings for her. He is calm, rational and supportive of his friends.
• Zorome: A hot-headed and arrogant boy who pilots Argentea with Miku. He is competitive, impulsive and often clashes with others. He idolizes adults and wants to become one.
• Miku: A sassy and outspoken girl who pilots Argentea with Zorome. She is confident, prideful and often argues with Zorome. She likes to tease others and cares about her appearance.
• Mitsuru: A cold and aloof boy who pilots Genista with Kokoro. He is cynical, sarcastic and distrustful of others. He has a grudge against Hiro for breaking a promise they made as children.
• Kokoro: A gentle and kind girl who pilots Genista with Mitsuru. She is compassionate, polite and curious about the world. She has an interest in childbirth and motherhood.
• Futoshi: A chubby and cheerful boy who pilots Chlorophytum with Ikuno. He is friendly, optimistic and gluttonous. He has a crush on Kokoro and is loyal to his friends.
• Ikuno: A quiet and reserved girl who pilots Chlorophytum with Futoshi. She is intelligent, mature and observant. She has feelings for Ichigo and struggles with her sexuality.

Other characters include the members of APE, the mysterious organization that rules over humanity; the Nines, a special squad of parasites who are loyal to Papa; Dr. Franxx, the eccentric scientist who created the Franxx; Hachi and Nana, the former parasites who supervise Squad 13; 001, the leader of the klaxosaurs; and many more.
